The Crocodile Hunter and His Environmentalist Impacts
Environmentalism is defined as
"concern about and action aimed at protecting the environment". The
people who are the ones who take this action are
the Environmentalist and their aim to either to bring awareness to
what is happening or to change it. Sometimes these individuals decide to become
an environmentalist and try to make a career about it. They would say
Environmentalism was their calling while others would say they were born
to do this. Now, with the abundance of Environmentalists in the world it
isn't and easy to pick the best or the most interesting because they all have
their own stories yet, these that I will be discussing felt that informing
others about the environment was their obligation, and they always loved
doing what was needed.

Most people born around and before the 90s would remember Steve Irwin from his
Tv Shows and being renowned as " The Crocodile Hunter ". Steve Irwin
was an Australian zookeeper, conservationist, television
star, wildlife expert and environmentalist who enjoyed informing others about
natures most beautiful creatures. Starting his television series "The
Crocodile Hunter", Steve Irwin was able to show people worldwide animals
from all parts of the globe in a new entertaining and exciting way that helped
educate people on the animals around them. While Irwin wasn't filming he was
doing whatever he could in order to help animals.
"I consider myself a wildlife
warrior. My mission is to save the world's endangered species." Irwin was
utilizing his skills in order to show others that they could make a difference
in saving animals and the planet. Steve Irwin also bought large areas of land
for protecting the animals in these areas and created the Wildlife Warriors
Worldwide. In the 9 years Irwin was on Television and more than 500 million
people tuning in to watch his shows, Steve Irwin brought the importance of
nature to people who would've never thought about protecting the environment
and inspired an entire generation of kids into trying to change the environment
and save it.
I chose to display a Crocodile having a bird sit on
its mouth to depict how others would see a crocodile a harmful beast while Steve Irwin would see it as a creature that can be peaceful and beautiful in its own way Painting by Shaggyp |

An event that Steve Irwin is famous for
is for in 2002, founding the Wildlife Warrior Worldwide (Formally known as the
Steve Irwin Conservation Foundation) to protect wildlife and endangered
species. This foundation aids in researching more about the worlds
endangered animals and trying to restore their environments while
protecting them in a confined space. The Foundation also aided into breeding
and rescuing programs to help the populations of these animals to grow.
Some of the rescue programs were for animals being attacked by poachers or
animals in other dangerous scenarios of trapped in mud to inhaling plastics
they weren't supposed to.
Steve Irwin had a dream to people and
animals to be apart of nature and be able to interact together, and
that's where they created projects. The projects that the Wildlife
Warriors include aiding in Whale Sharks to studying the Wildlife in Oregon and
seeing how they are impacted by humans. The projects are set all around the
globe to help educate and research about these animals in order to help
them. Since Steve Irwin was on Television, he was able to use his platform and
show his progress in helping the animals on the foundation and those who were
across the world. He was able to show those at home the dangers these animals
are involved in and how they are effected by what people are doing and how we
could help them.

Steve Irwin has a lot of videos,
interviews and interactions throughout his time of being an international celebrity
and his actions have inspired many to interact with the environment. I know
from personal experience that growing up with a family absolutely addicted
to Steve Irwin and watching all of his shows. Learning from Irwin has been a
wonderful experience especially being able to see all the wonderful animals and
at young age I was able to enjoy what he was doing for the environment. I feel
like if people looked at Steve Irwin and learned from what he did people would
be able to enjoy the environment more than they would previously thought.
The foundations that were created were for the people and the animals to be
able to experience each other and learn more about how we could live together.
Keene is no exception because we have lots of wildlife that love to interact
with us like bears and squirrels. Now, while Steve Irwin is "The Crocodile
Hunter" nobody in Keene should be known as "The Bear Hunter" and
trying to do exactly what he did, but learning about his ideals and trying to
be more environmentally friendly to these creatures could inspire you to
do great things.

MrScienceShow:Farewell Steve Irwin
I always hear about Steve Irwin and how amazing he is/was, however, I never understood what his actual career was and what he did for the environment. Thank you for sharing about his deeds to the wildlife and informing us about what made him a great person and environmentalist. One thing I don’t understand is why he got the nickname and why people called him “The Crocodile Hunter” if all he ever did was save the crocodiles, it doesn’t make sense to me. I like how you used pictures to show what an average person would see vs what Steve Irwin would see. Specifically the bird sitting on the crocodiles mouth and how an average person would see a hostile creature while Steve Irwin would see a calm beast living in nature just minding its own business. While I agree that people in keene can help the environment and wildlife, I don’t think they can do it to the extent that Steve Irwin did, solely because that was Steve Irwin’s job/career. Again thank you for sharing about Steve Irwin! I meant a lot!
